But concept art shows that there is a blade piece, and the hook piece which slides alongside the blade and locks in place when extended.Yes, they are, though obviously not all sheaths worked that way. You can sharpen a blade down to a razor's edge if you want but the more you do that the easier it is for that blade to chip, break, and dull. In all honesty, you don't actually want an insanely sharp blade in combat most of the time.
